No. Coding assigns the diagnosis and procedure codes that describe what happened. Billing takes those codes, builds and submits the claim, and pursues payment. They are adjacent and often sit on the same team.
Do I need a certification to work in medical billing?
Not usually to start. Employers screen on accuracy and payer familiarity. Credentials like CPB exist and can help, but they are issued by their own bodies and are not a hiring requirement everywhere.
