Best MEDVA Alternatives in 2026

The closest MEDVA alternatives are Hello Rache ($9.50/hour flat, Philippines), MedicalVirtual ($8-$12/hour, Latin America, signed BAA) and Virtual Latinos (from $1.6K/month, Latin America). LatinoPro, LatHire and Wing Assistant suit bilingual, self-managed or fully managed hiring. RemoteNurse is a training site and job board, not an agency.

Why do clinics look beyond MEDVA?

MEDVA is a large medical VA staffing firm. It says it has more than 2,400 active assistants, recruits in the Philippines and Latin America, endorses only the top 10% of trainees after competency assessments, and offers a secured-facility option for EMR access.

The pages we read did not publish a price, so you need a sales call to compare cost. Clinics also look elsewhere when they want a flat published rate, a bilingual assistant on US hours, no long-term contract, or to hire and manage someone themselves. Each option below fits one of those needs.

1. RemoteNurse: Training and job board (not a staffing agency)

Strengths

  • Every lesson and scored practice case is free, so candidates can show what they practised before you interview them.
  • Employers can submit a remote healthcare-support role to the job board. Every listing is checked before it goes live.
  • Role guides and a pay calculator help you scope the desk before you hire.

Limits

  • We are not an agency. We do not vet, place, employ or replace assistants, run payroll, or sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with your practice.
  • Hiring stays with you: interviews, contracts, HIPAA onboarding and access control are your job.
  • If you want someone else to recruit, employ and manage the assistant, an agency below fits better.

Who it’s for: Practices with an office manager who can interview, onboard and supervise a remote hire themselves.

Hiring yourself? Post a remote role, scope the desk with the role guides, or read how medical VAs train.

2. Virtual Latinos: Recruitment and payroll for Latin American remote staff

Strengths

  • Publishes price bands: Starter $1.6K to $2.9K, Professional $1.7K to $3.4K, Advanced $2.1K to $4.4K a month.
  • Says its pricing has no recruitment, access or setup fees, and that it handles sourcing, recruitment, payroll and retention.
  • Offers English, Spanish or Portuguese speakers, and presents 3 to 4 candidates to interview.
  • Replaces an assistant who is not the right match at no extra cost, with conditions.

Limits

  • Not healthcare-only: the pricing page covers remote roles in general.
  • Its FAQ says the assistant goes through your training and onboarding, as a regular employee would.
  • We found no HIPAA or BAA statement on the pricing page we read.

Who it’s for: Clinics with Spanish-speaking patients and an existing training process.

3. LatinoPro: Bilingual virtual assistant staffing

Strengths

  • Says it specialises in placing bilingual Latin American professionals into US healthcare practices.
  • Lists healthcare support such as patient scheduling, medical billing, insurance verification and EMR management.
  • Says it endorses assistants within 1 to 2 business days of an initial discovery call.

Limits

  • No price on the home page; you book a call for one.
  • Also serves legal and real estate, so it is not healthcare-only.
  • We found no BAA statement on the home page we read.

Who it’s for: Clinics that need bilingual front-desk cover soon and are happy to get a quote on a call.

4. LatHire: Talent marketplace with HR and payroll

Strengths

  • No upfront fee to browse; you pay only if you hire.
  • Says it handles HR, international payroll and legal compliance at no additional cost.
  • Offers health insurance through a partner for an extra $106/month per hire.
  • Says it aims to deliver a custom shortlist within one to two days of a consultation.

Limits

  • A general marketplace across tech, sales and admin; healthcare is one category among many.
  • You manage the hire directly, so training and supervision are yours.
  • We found no HIPAA or BAA statement on the home page we read.

Who it’s for: Practices comfortable choosing from profiles and managing the assistant themselves.

5. Hello Rache: Healthcare virtual assistant staffing

Strengths

  • Publishes a flat rate of $9.50 an hour, with no long-term contracts and no setup fees.
  • Says you work with licensed nurses and healthcare professionals in the Philippines, trained and vetted, and certified in HIPAA training.
  • Same assistant every day, weekly billing, and you pick who to work with.
  • Founded in 2017 by a family physician, Dr. Mark Carnett, D.O.

Limits

  • Philippines-based, so a US day shift is overnight for the assistant.
  • We found no BAA statement on the home page we read; ask for one.

Who it’s for: Practices that want predictable hourly cost for scribing, scheduling and back-office work.

6. MedicalVirtual: Healthcare virtual assistant staffing

Strengths

  • Its pricing page lists staffing at $8-$12 an hour across all roles, part-time or full-time (as of Oct 2026).
  • Says the hourly rate covers the assistant, in-country contract, payroll and compliance, with no separate recruitment or placement fee.
  • Says assistants complete HIPAA training before they start, and that it executes a Business Associate Agreement with your practice before patient-data access.
  • Says it only shortlists candidates who have already worked for US medical practices or billing companies.
  • Is plain that HIPAA compliance depends on your practice's own safeguards, not on one trained person.

Limits

  • Direct Hire and Build a Team are quote-only; its pricing page says there is no long-term contract for staffing.
  • Its own page says matching time depends on the role; billing and prior authorization take longer to match.

Who it’s for: Clinics that want US-experienced, bilingual staff and written HIPAA paperwork from day one.

7. Wing Assistant: Managed virtual assistant service

Strengths

  • No long-term contract, and says assistants go live in 48 hours.
  • Says it is SOC 2 certified and has HIPAA safeguards for healthcare work.
  • Offers 80- and 160-hour monthly plans with a dedicated assistant, free replacement and a customer success manager.

Limits

  • A general VA service; healthcare is one of several roles.
  • Its own page says it is not a fit if you are mainly looking for the lowest-cost option.
  • Plan prices did not appear in the page text we read; ask for a quote.

Who it’s for: Practices without time to manage a remote hire day to day.

How we evaluated

On 2026-10-22 we opened each provider’s own home, pricing or careers page and restated only what it said: published prices, hiring regions, contract terms and HIPAA statements. We did not use third-party reviews, ratings or estimates, and we did not hire through any of them. Where a page did not say something, the table says so. RemoteNurse is our own product, so we list it first and spell out where an agency is the better fit. Prices and terms change; confirm them on a written quote.

Which MEDVA alternative should you choose?

  • You want a published hourly rate: Hello Rache ($9.50/hour flat) or MedicalVirtual ($8-$12/hour, as of Oct 2026).
  • You need English-Spanish cover on US hours: MedicalVirtual, LatinoPro or Virtual Latinos.
  • You want HIPAA paperwork in writing from day one: ask every provider for a BAA; MedicalVirtual says it signs one.
  • You want someone else to supervise the assistant: Wing Assistant’s managed model, or stay with MEDVA.
  • You want to browse profiles and hire directly: LatHire, or post the role on RemoteNurse.
  • You want to train someone yourself: RemoteNurse’s free medical VA path.

MEDVA alternatives: buying questions

How much does a MEDVA alternative cost?

Only some providers publish prices. On October 22, 2026, Hello Rache listed a flat $9.50 an hour and Virtual Latinos listed monthly bands starting at $1.6K. On October 27, 2026, MedicalVirtual listed staffing at $8-$12 an hour for all roles. MEDVA, LatinoPro and Wing Assistant did not show a price in the page text we read, so ask each for a written quote.

Are these medical virtual assistants HIPAA compliant?

HIPAA compliance depends on your practice's safeguards, not only on the assistant. Before an assistant sees patient data, ask the provider for a signed Business Associate Agreement and written security procedures. MedicalVirtual says it signs a BAA, MEDVA says its assistants work in SOC 2 monitored systems, Wing Assistant says it is SOC 2 certified, and Hello Rache says its assistants complete HIPAA training.

Philippines or Latin America: which region should I hire from?

Latin American assistants share or sit close to US time zones, and many speak Spanish. Philippines-based assistants can cover US hours on an agreed schedule, which is overnight for them. MEDVA recruits in both regions, Hello Rache in the Philippines, and Virtual Latinos, LatinoPro, LatHire and MedicalVirtual in Latin America.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

Not always. Hello Rache says it has no long-term contracts and bills weekly, and Wing Assistant says it has no long-term contract. LatHire charges nothing until you hire. Contract terms for the others were not on the pages we read, so ask before you sign.

Is RemoteNurse a staffing agency like MEDVA?

No. RemoteNurse is a training site and job board. You can post a role and hire directly, but we do not place, employ, pay or manage assistants. If you want someone else to recruit and manage the hire, use an agency.

Is RemoteNurse the same as Remote Nurse Connection?

No. RemoteNurse at remotenurse.org is a separate company from Remote Nurse Connection.
